Create!, the UK-wide art awards, is making a welcome comeback to provide a creative outlet for those with ASC and special education needs during the current Covid-19 restrictions.
An engaging competition for people of all ages
Originally launched in 2011 as Create! Art for Autism, the awards proved to be very popular.
There were thousands of entries from across the UK and overseas. The awards even won thier own UK award for Autism Best Practice.
The awards concluded in 2016, but by popular demand, the original organiser, Beechwood College in South Wales, has decided to relaunch the competition this year.
Now known as Create! to reflect a wider inclusivity, the awards are open to children and adults who live with any special education needs, an Autistic Spectrum Condition or a learning disability.
This year’s comptition theme is ‘Dreams’
The theme for the awards this year is ‘Dreams’.
There are three categories to enter: 2D or 3D Art; Digital Media; and Poetry or Short Prose.
Each category is divided into age groups that include 6-10 years, 11-19 years and 20 years+.
There are prizes for winners and runners-up in all the categories and age groups.
The judging panel brings together artists and spokespeople within the SEN community
Create! is delighted to have nine judges on board. They range from successful artists who are themselves on the spectrum, to high-profile individuals with a personal involvement with the SEN community and a keen understanding of the benefits that creative expression offers.
Kelly Hull, Principal at Beechwood College, commented: “The awards proved hugely popular in previous years, and it seemed an appropriate time to bring them back.
“Many people with special education needs have been struggling with the uncertainty that the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown have brought, and we hope this competition will provide a much-needed creative outlet for everyone.”
