Leicestershire-based care provider Chartwell Trust Care announced this week that it has launched new single occupancy supported living schemes for young people with autistic spectrum conditions who are leaving special schools and care services.
Six self-contained flats and four solo bungalows
Following the success of similar supported housing projects for adults with Learning Disabilities, Chartwell has dedicated 6 new self-contained flats and 4 solo bungalows in Leicester and Leicestershire which are suitable for young people in transition who have autism and complex/challenging needs.
These facilities provide high-quality tenancies for young people aged 17 to 25 to live in their local communities.
Bespoke support is provided from Chartwell’s experienced staff to meet the individual needs of each person, helping them to manage their own personal care, medication, household tasks, budgeting, meal planning and preparation.
‘We’re delighted’
Chartwell’s Head of Adult Operations, Kat Keating, said: “We’re delighted to add these single-occupancy services to our portfolio. These complement our existing residential care and supported living services and offer alternative provision for young people with Autistic spectrum conditions which is much needed.
“Our teams not only provide day-to-day prompting with daily living tasks, they also provide encouragement and motivation, reassurance and emotional support.”
Positive Behaviour Support
Chartwell’s staff have received specialist training from Autism provider Spiral Care Solutions to be able to provide this support. They have also received training in Positive Behaviour Support, which is used consistently to help young people learn different ways of expressing themselves. In doing so it helps them to manage their behaviour and reduce their anxieties as they move into adulthood.
The young people will also have a key focus on skills development and they are encouraged and supported to attend college or undertake voluntary work.
